After the board's action to deny the benefits, Fay filed for arbi- tration on those articles of his contract. Callan told the Town Crier the committee had originally granted Fay S3,480 per year for his life insurance premium and S720 per year in disability in- surance. Callan, who was reacting to an August 19 letter from Fay to the school board. She said she felt it was time to discuss the superintendent's con- tract in open session. Shirley Callan, chairman, cast the only dissenting vote. In the end, members voted four to one to table further discussion until they re- tained a lawyer to advise them how to proceed.
